A Storm's A Comin'
Hurricane Florence has been the big news for the past few weeks. At one point it was labeled a category 4 with the potential to be a category 5. It was on the path to hit the southern East coast, except for Florida. People were told to prepare not just for the storm but for the flooding that may come with the storm. Many were told to evacuate. As with many storms that come there are those few that think they are bigger than the storm or that nothing bad will happen. And with most storms there is a change in the path it will take. That is just what happened, some people did not leave and had to be rescued, and the storm changed its path.
Here is what is mind boggling to me, when people are told to prepare why don’t they? You may have to prepare to leave the area, or get your house, your store, your work place ready, find a safe place for your animals. So are people just lazy and they think nothing is going to happen so why bother? It will be ok.
Many found out the hard way, that it wasn’t ok, that preparing was very important. Many lost their lives, pets were lost, and homes were destroyed. Their lives have been turned upside down, all because they didn’t prepare.
There is a much bigger storm coming and most of us have known about it for a very long time. What are we doing about it? Are we preparing for it or is it life as usual?
Does this storm require us to prepare our homes or does it require us to prepare our hearts? In John 14:2-3 Jesus tells us that He is preparing a place for us; In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And in Matthew 24:44 it says; Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
There are many who do not believe in this, but for those of us who do believe the time is now to get ready. What does that mean to get ready? Give your whole heart to the Lord holding back nothing from Him.
God told Noah to build an ark and prepare the people. For 120 years Noah built and preached, but the people did not heed the warning, they did not prepare. And they perished. Matthew 24:37-39, But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
There is an old hymn called ‘Are you Ready for Jesus to Come.’ It was taken from Colossians 3:16.
The theme of the Bible is Jesus,
And how he died to save men.
The plan of salvation assures us,
He's coming back again.
Chorus:
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you faithful in all that you do?
Have you fought a good fight;
Have you stood for the right:
Have others seen Jesus in you.
Are you ready to stand in your place?
Are you ready to look in his face?
Can you look up and say, "This is my God!"
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Don't cling to the world and it's treasure,
This earth will soon pass away.
O give him your love without measure,
He's calling you today.
Chorus:
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
Are you faithful in all that you do?
Have you fought a good fight;
Have you stood for the right;
Have others seen Jesus in you.
Are you ready to stand in your place?
Are you ready to look in his face?
Can you look up and say, "This is my God!"
Are you ready for Jesus"
Are you ready for Jesus"
Are you ready for Jesus to come?
My prayer for all of us who believe is to ask the Lord what must I do to be saved? You see we have a part to play. The time is now “Get Ready! Get Ready!” My Lord is at the door of your heart knocking. Will you let Him in?
