It's That Time Again...

It’s planting time on KTS farm, and with this weather we are really not sure if we could start at all. But last week we had some spring like weather and that made it possible to get our potatoes planted. On the inside in our planting room we planted our cold vegetable seeds in starter pots and this morning when I checked on them, we have some sprouting already.

It takes much preparation to get ready for planting. Last fall we got all of the beds ready for this season's planting. All we have to do now is uncover the planting beds and give them a quick turn over and little fertilizer and they are ready to place the plants in the beds.

I have started the sips for the sweet potatoes. I am excited this year because we are trying for the first time Korean sweet potatoes. We had a great crop of sweet potatoes last summer so we will still do our American sweet potatoes.

We have learned that each year your garden should grow so we have increased the size of the garden and we are trying new things. One new item in the garden will be sorghum. If you don’t know what sorghum is, it is like sugar cane, but you can get much more uses out of it. Like, flour, syrup, sugar and an oat like grain for cereal.

As I think of the prep work it takes to have a great garden so we can have a great harvest, it is much like the preparation we as Christians must have to be ready for the great harvest when Jesus comes. We all want to be ready, but it doesn’t just happen. We must get our selves ready and for most of us there is a lot of preparation that has to take place. In Galatians 6:9 ESV it says; “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” And in Psalm 67:6; “The earth has yielded its produce; God, our God, blesses us.” And in Psalm 85:12; “Indeed, the LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its produce.”

My prayer is that all of us are ready for that great harvest and our produce is all ripe!
